The 2024 Route 66 Mother Road Festival (Sept. 27-29) has concluded, and it was another smashing success. Festival organizer Greg Cooper said 1,006 vehicles were registered to be displayed, just 30 short of the record.
Another unofficial record of sorts was set in the Isringhausen Imports Burnout Contest when 79-year-old "Grannie" Annie Kohler won the top prize in her classic white Cadillac. "The crowd loved the vintage car and the vintage driver," Annie wrote on her Facebook page. "The announcer said it was the first time in event history that a woman was in the contest."
Among the first to congratulate Annie on her victory was special celebrity guest Chris Jacobs, former host of TV's "Overhaulin'" and current Mecum car auction broadcast team member. Chris went for a spin with Annie in her Cadillac and posted an online video of the encounter.
Annie is on a winning streak and shows no signs of slowing down. On Sept. 14, she won first place in a burnout contest at the Fall Fest in Bunker Hill, Illinois.
Annie reflected on her winning ways in another Facebook post, thanking "the good Lord for leaving me here long enough to have so much fun!"
Congratulations, Annie! You're an inspiration to us all!
