Consumer Reports has named BMW among the top three brands in their annual auto reliability brand rankings. The German automaker jumped up 10 spots from last year to join Toyota and Lexus on the winners’ podium. BMW was one of only two European luxury automakers to rank in the top 10.
Every year, CR asks its members about problems they’ve had with their vehicles in the previous 12 months. This year, the consumer organization gathered data on over 300,000 vehicles that address 17 trouble areas, including engine, transmission, in-car electronics, and more. They used that information to give reliability ratings for every major mainstream model.
The BMW 3 Series received the additional distinction of being ranked among the 10 most-reliable car models. Receiving a reliability score of 80, the 3 Series was the only European luxury model to receive this distinction.
