Isringhausen Imports recently concluded a season of giving by making a cash donation to Central Illinois Foodbank. We pledged to give $100 for every vehicle sold in December plus money generously donated by Isringhausen employees and customers. The final amount was $17,500, which surpassed the amount we raised for the food bank last year by $300.
Sadly, hunger in America has only increased in recent months due to Covid-19. By one estimate, 50 million Americans may experience food insecurity due to the pandemic, including 17 million children.
Fortunately, organizations like Central Illinois Foodbank stepped up their efforts, finding creative ways to meet people's needs. For instance, they teamed up with Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Illinois and a local caterer to help provide local families with sack lunches and to-go meals three days a week. Pickups were done curbside to reduce contact.
Here are some statistics pertaining to Central Illinois Foodbanks’ Covid-19 response:
- 58 drive-up food giveaways throughout the food bank’s 21-county service area
- 9,022 pre-packed boxes of dairy, meat, produce and ½ gallons of milk distributed every week
- 18,525 to-go meals by a local caterer for families and seniors
- 4,229,193 -- Since Covid-19 restrictions began, the food bank has distributed the equivalent of 4,229,193 meals
The monetary gift kicks off an entire year of giving and other events at Isringhausen, as we celebrate our 40th year in business. We’re humbled by the support we’ve received from our customers and employees, and are proud to give back to the community that has given us so much.
